This Saturday, the world's VERY FIRST bootleg mashup club meets the world's BIGGEST bootleg mashup club! From London, Bootie is proud to present CARTEL COMMUNIQUE, the duo who created BASTARD, the first club night in the world dedicated solely to "bootlegs" (as mashups are called in the U.K.). They'll be spinning a showcase set on the main floor, as well as taking over the upstairs room to do the Bootie version of their London club night. And for the midnight mashup show, DAM DYKE, DEAN DISASTER, & EMILY ESTRANGED return with an encore performance of their epic Super Mario Bros. vs. Nine Inch Nails performance, "Closer To Mario." CARTEL COMMUNIQUE started in London in 1999, cutting up, sampling, and re-editing video/audio material, utilizing the equipment at their day jobs. By the end of 2001, and a million viral video downloads later, their internet infamy had gotten them advertising contracts, commercial directing gigs, official video remixes, and un-payable hosting bills.
This duo were at the forefront of the burgeoning bootleg revolution

and helped create the modern mashup movement, years before anyone even knew what a "mashup" was! And as the
creators of
BASTARD, the world's first mashup bootleg club night, they knew that an
evening of chopped-up songs created by unlikely (and unlicensed)
pairings of different musical artists and genres made for one
helluva a fun night out!

The world's FIRST mashup club meets the world's biggest mashup club!
At the beginning of 2000 CARTEL COMMUNIQUE started a club night called King of the Boots ,dedicated solely to sampled material and bootlegs (soon to be called mashups). By the end of 2001, they had changed the name to BASTARD , and it has the distinction of being the world's first mashup bootleg club night!
Held at a tiny underground bar in Soho called Asylum, Bastard was
always packed, and it soon had major record labels, DJs –
including mashup pioneers
Richard X, Tom Middleton
and
Freelance Hellraiser
– and every national newspaper in Europe clamoring for a
piece of the action. Seven years later, they're finally
bringing a bit of Bastard to the upstairs room at the DNA Lounge!
This is also a special honor for Bootie, as
Bastard was the inspiration for us throwing our own version of an all-mashup bootleg club
night!
The two most famous mashup clubs in history unite for this one
night!
Consider this the ultimate "bootleg club night" mashup!

If you saw "
The Monster Show" at Bootie last June, then you already saw a scaled-down version
of"
Closer To Mario," the tour de force performance that brought down
the house, featuring
DAM DYKE, DEAN DISASTER, & EMILY ESTRANGED.
This show is played out like a real-life version of the
classic Nintendo videogame Super Mario Bros., but mashed up with the music of Nine Inch Nails, complete
with props, videogame "effects," and a twisted ending!
This is one of our most favorite midnight mashup show EVER, and we've been waiting for MONTHS to bring it back!
At 11 PM: Live mashup rock band SMASH-UP DERBY
Bootie's house band
SMASH-UP DERBY -- the world's only live mashup rock band -- will take the
stage
promptly at 11 PM, like they always do ... and this week, they plan on playing a
bunch of
mashups from British artists
, including what many consider to be the mashup that sparked the
modern mashup movement –
Freelance Hellraiser's 'Stroke of Genius' – in honor of this week's guest DJs from the UK. And if they can pull it off in
rehearsal this week, they might even have a new Metallica mashup by
Saturday as well!
Resident DJs ADRIAN, MYSTERIOUS D, PARTY BEN and DADA
Your resident Bootie DJs will be spinning the mashup jams -- both
upstairs and downstairs -- throughout the night, in and around
Cartel Communique.
DJ DADA will kicking the night off on the main floor,
PARTY BEN will do sets on both floors, and
ADRIAN & the MYSTERIOUS D have a whole slew of hot new mashups that they can't wait to
play for you!
