“Food for Thought” Benefit Honors Michael Pollan and Celebrates Growing Green Awards Winners

Celebrities, foodies, and leaders in sustainable food to attend premier Bay Area event

 

This year, the Natural Resources Defense Council’s annual San Francisco benefit becomes “Food for Thought,” a night to honor Michael Pollan , award-winning author of The Omnivore’s Dilemma and In Defense of Food, for his leadership in the field of sustainable food. NRDC will also celebrate the winners of the inaugural Growing Green Awards, which will be presented to innovators in three categories: Food Producer, Business Leader, and Thought Leader.   The event will be held May 9 at the California Academy of Sciences.

 

EVENT DETAILS:

What: “Food for Thought,” NRDC’s 2009 San Francisco benefit, honoring Michael Pollan and the winners of the inaugural Growing Green Awards.

 

Who:  

·         Michael Pollan, who will be honored by food and wine authority Colman Andrews of Saveur and Gourmet magazines.

·         Event co-chairs Robert Redford and Sibylle Szaggars, Randi and Bob Fisher, Joy Covey, Bob Epstein and Amy Roth, Nicole Lederer and Larry Orr, Christine Russell and Mark Schlesinger, Wendy and Eric Schmidt, and Kirby Walker and Paul Danielsen. ( Participants in previous benefits include Homero Aridjis, Ed Begley, Jr., Richard Goldman, Leon Panetta, James Taylor, and Alice Waters.)
