DEAD WORKS (Event Over)

Mystery, wonder, and fascination are commonly used themes in Ian Hill's new series of bizzare paintings, entitled- "DEAD WORKS." Old photos, toys, and good old fashion imagination are used with monochromatic elements and paired with neon color patterns to create an exciting pallete for his creatures and figures to cohabitat. The meaning of his work remains illusive and allows the viewer to reflect on their own interpretations. Ian Hill has always been fascinated by alternative realities. His dreams of imaginary creatures and unframiliar places have made their way into his waking conscious and consequently onto his canvases. Hill's work paradoxically challenges the viewers moral values through the juxtaposition of sarcasm, intimidation, and hissy fits. Hill graduated from the Academy of Art S.F. with a degree in illustration, but has pursued fine art as a venue for his images. His work has been shown in San Francisco, New York, San Diego, and the Phillipines. In 2008 he was awarded the "Direct Art Award" and "Best in Show" for the juried international competition "Strange Figurations". Hill has also worked as an art instructor and volunteered with city art programs for the youth.
