DETAILS: Sunset Promotions and the Fringe, the team that has brought you such epic parties as “Freaksgiving” and the “Icebreakers Ball” team up again for their third annual twisted take on the annual Mexican holiday . It’s “FREQO DE MAYO 2008”at its new location, Temple Nightclub with an all-star cast of future world breaks, Latin, house, electro and mashups that includes tech-hop legend Tipper. NYC world-breakbeat pioneer Sabo (Sol Selectas-Turntables on the Hudson) will update the Latin sound while Toronto’s Phat Conductor and LA’s Ground Control provide a treatise on breakbeat. Midtempo acid crunk will throb its way in through Antennae and Mozaic. And for the first time ever, the entire Fringe DJ posse will appear under one roof, including electro kidz Absurge and Victor Vega, eclectic beatslingers Mycho Cocoa, Dylan “BLVD” Cahill and funk-mash-breaks killers Tim Dietz, Big Dolla, and MoPo.

A description of Tipper ?   What's the point? He never says a word anyway. Nobody knows anything about him, apart from his music. So how do we find out about this nearly translucent geezer from England? Go see him at a show and he'll be standing on stage looking half-bored, not moving nearly fast enough to be scratching like that, while he blows the speaker cones to pieces and leaves everyone in the crowd standing around with their jaws dropped.   Try to catch up with him after his set and he's already gone back to the hotel for sleepy time. Hype and fluff about who he is and where he's been and what he's all about doesn't do justice to his compositions or the impact they make on those who hear it.   So, we'll probably never know anything about him, apart from his music, and if you listen closely enough over time he hopes you'll understand everything he is trying to say.

The Phat Conductor is one of Canada's leading underground exports, holding it down since 1995 with gigs as far as Switzerland, the U.K, Burning Man, NY and the legendary Shambhala Music Festival in the rainforests on British Columbia. His diverse style covers all genres from Electro House, Techno, breakbeat, Hip-Hop, Dancehall, DnB & IDM/Glitch. No matter what the venue, The Phat Conductor can suit his style to the crowd and keep your dancefloor rocking. Throw loads of original tunes and the fact that he works with live video into the mix and you have a sure fire crowd pleaser.

Sabo production in the last four years has gained international recognition and brought him to DJ in countries like Brazil, Spain, Dominican Republic, Austria, Mexico, and Kosovo, as well as various cities in the US. He has six EP releases on his own label Sol*Selectas, two 12" releases on Wonderwheel Recordings, and a full length album on the way in '08 for Irma Records in Italy, with production partner Zeb. From Brazilian to Afrobeat, Disco to Reggae, Hip Hop to Dub, Miami Bass to House, Latin to Techno, Sabo is known to be locked into each style as if it were the only thing he's been spinning for the past 10 years, and he flows seamlessly from one genre to the next. He's been a special guest at Turntables on the Hudson parties for the last 5 years, is an instructor at the Scratch DJ Academy, and was nominated to URB magazine's Annual 'Next 100' in 2006.

MoPo (Motionpotion) is one of the country’s foremost purveyors of reinvented roots music, from nufunk to rocktronica to tech hop, MoPo takes the stuff you know and supercharges it. AnTenNae (Get Freaky) is an underground hero for his embrace of new styles including his own signature “acid crunk” style. Mozaic (Raindance) has long been known as a premier purveyor of cutting edge eclectic electronica. Ground Control has quietly pushed himself to the forefront of LA’s underground breakbeat scene. Victor Vega and Absurge are the Fringe crew’s resident electro and minimal experts, Big Dolla and Tim Dietz hold down the funk, breaks and mashups, while Mycho Cocoa and Dylan Cahill (drummer for local power trio BLVD) simply can’t be categorized. The Fringe is a collective of nearly 100 people dedicated to pushing evolutionary music on an unsuspecting public. For three years straight, the Fringe has hosted marathon soundsessions at the Burning Man Festival and has hosted numerous parties in the Bay Area to support their artistic habits. Fringe painters perform at most events and have shown off their work at various local art shows.
