DETAILS: The Funk is coming back and Uncle Jam wants YOU! In April, Funkonnection celebrates the release of “Plastic Starfish” a full-length CD by resident Tal M Klein. Joining the fun will be Aussie funk/breaks hero Nick Thayer, San Francisco legend Romanowski and South City records remixer Chris Nicholson. Resident DJ Motion Potion and Romanowski will celebrate James brown’s impending birthday with a complete room full o’ JB including James Brown, the JB’s, Maceo, Fred, Bootsy, and all the hip hop and remixes you can handle.

Fort Knox Five and Thunderball have been churning out newschool funk with an oldschool sound for years now. With some of the most coveted limited-release breaks records on the planet emerging from their Washington DC-based Fort Knox Recordings label, FK5 has emerged as a leader in the struggle to make dance music relevant to folks who like the live sound. Thunderball releases his solo records on ESL but is also a member of Fort Knox 5, and for Funkonnection, both John Horvath of Fort Knox and Steve Raskin of Thunderball will face off in a 4-turntable battle to determine who is truly the king of DC.

Mat the Alien and Vinyl Ritchie (AKA Wicked Lester) have long been known as Canada’s hottest DJ/producers. Heroes above the border, they have long held court at the Shambhala Festival and dozens of clubs across the great white north. Turntablists of the highest caliber, they are known as some of the finest 45-slingers on planet earth, a habit that has made its way around the world via insane Youtube clips… ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8LheOTKv4Z...). The two will make their San Francisco debuts in grand fashion with a 4-turntable beatdown that is bound to overshadow even the night’s headliners.
