THE JUAN MACLEAN:
Since the turn of the 21st century, DFA club music maestro Juan
Maclean has been laying impressive groundwork. First, there were
killer singles, from "By the Time I Get to Venus" in 2002, to "Give
Me Every Little Thing”, to last year's international club hit
and critical year-end favorite "Happy House". There was a debut
full-length (Less Than Human, 2005) followed by remixes for
colleagues such as Air, Chicken Lips, Daft Punk, Dave Gahan,
Matthew Dear; international tours with LCD Soundsystem, Cut Copy
and Shocking Pinks; and DJ gigs from Telluride to Tel Aviv. In
2009, The Juan Maclean dropped their second album on DFA, "The
Future Will Come". This received not only great reviews and popular
success, but was also found on heavy rotation in most dj's sets.
The live band features an all-star cast with a semi rotating
roster, from other acts such as LCD Soundsystem, !!!, Turing
Machine, Holy Ghost! and more. Their collective performance as The
Juan Maclean has been one of the most talked about live shows in
recent memory.
PARALLELS:
Based in Toronto, Parallels have built a loyal following since
their formation in October 2008, and since then have shared billing
with established bands such as Broken Social Scene and Sebastien
Tellier. They have received rave reviews from music blogs and
magazines such as Discodust, FACT Magazine, the Toronto Star, etc.
This autumn, they plan to release their first LP on UK indie
label Thisisnotanexit.
DFA RECORDS:
DFA could be seen as the center of the dance-punk genre. As well as James Murphy's LCD Soundsystem, the label is currently home to The Juan Maclean, Hot Chip, Shit Robot, Delia Gonzalez & Gavin Russom, Prinzhorn Dance School, Booji Boy High, Shocking Pinks, Holy Ghost!, Hercules and Love Affair, Still Going, Syclops and YACHT.
